Special Events
Highland's Garden Café, with its intimate interiors, gardens and patios, has a unique opportunity to create special event venues for our guests.

Each month, the Café hosts a number of different types of events. For example, on the third Wednesday of each month, we host our senior lunch. You do not have to be a senior to attend but a senior must invite you!

On Sunday evenings, we host concerts, book signings, readings or private showings of new art through our artist series. These are especially fun nights for the kitchen as we work palette to palate, so to speak, as we construct a multi-course dinner from a list of favorites offered our visiting artists.

Through our culinary arts series, we combine tastings, classes, demonstrations, cookbook signings and wine maker dinners, as we host friends in the industry and their guests.

If you would like to know about our upcoming events, please call us at 303.455.1399 or send us an email at privatedining@highlandsgardencafé.com.

Senior Lunch
The seniors who visit the Café seem to have a special appreciation for the magic of memory. Standing in the garden touching a single rose or sitting in front of the fireplace on a chilly afternoon, the Café reminds them of special times, good friends passed, anniversaries and achievements.

Senior Citizen Lunch Food to me creates this magic as it transforms the moment from real and actual to sensual and pervasive. It speaks so directly to all of our senses: the sight, the texture, the smell, the taste - all elicit a response, creating a memory.

A scent, however fleeting, vague yet familiar can remind you of your first peach; sweet, fuzzy, warm from the sun, sticky on your chin. A plate of fresh oysters on the half shell, briny and cold, can transport you back in time to friends on the beach, years before. Collected and shared, these memories become mirrors in time.

The Café hosts the prix fixe luncheon on the third Wednesday of each month for our seniors and their friends. The menu is designed to highlight the best of the season and the cost is $15 per guest, not including gratuity or sales tax.

Call a senior you know today and invite them for lunch! You might be surprised what the meal can hold in store for you.

Artist Series
Central to the quality of our lives is the nourishment of our bodies, our souls and our minds. Highland's Garden Café developed the Artist series to gather working authors, poets, painters, musicians, Artist Series actors and storytellers to the Café to meet with guests for an informal and highly engaging evening. The artist series establishes a more intimate setting for the artist and audience to interact.

The evening begins with a complimentary reception followed by a presentation, reading or performance by the artist. The evening culminates in a multi-course dinner that is created from a list of the artists' favorite ingredients.

As a cook, I find these events challenging and satisfying! Through the process of developing recipes and menus, I am given the opportunity to experiment with a variety of new ingredients and foods that range across the broad culinary universe.

Through my craft, I am constantly reminded of the special significance of the table and the importance of a shared meal. I am reminded that what we eat, where we eat and with whom, remains a part of our life experience.

From the time humankind sought shelter in caves, food and art have developed hand in hand. The very act of gathering and sharing food was illustrated for Artist Series all time through the art of these early hunters.

From the floor of the cave to the light of the campfire, from benches of stone to chairs and, ultimately, to the table, food and art intertwine and are representative of the culture and customs of a time and place.

I am reminded here of the salons of Gertrude Stein who successfully combined the cooking of Alice B. Toklas with the talents of Picasso, Monet and Stravinsky!

This small café in the Highlands hopes to nourish in the same tradition. Using art and the art of the table as the basic ingredients, we hope to encourage lively conversation, the opportunity to explore new ideas, greet new friends, expand understanding - the ingredients of the recipe for time well spent, a life fully appreciated.

We invite you to join us around the table to share a meal, a story and a
passion for life. Bon appetit!
